No one needs to
miss out on plenty of good, clean family fun this spring! Plans for “packing” as
much fun as possible into the 2009 Georgia Strawberry Festival are well underway.
The 2010 festival theme is “MORE JAM-PACKED FUN,” so mark your calendars
occupied on the dates of April 23 and 27. You will not want to miss out on
all the wonderful memories to be made with your family at the 12th
annual Georgia Strawberry Festival inReynolds, Georgia. Reynolds sits near the
center of the state approximately 22 miles west of Interstate 75 at the
intersection of Ga. Hwy 96 (Fall Line Freeway) and Ga. Hwy
128.
The two events you just can’t allow yourself or your family to miss
are:
(1) the Georgia
State Strawberry Cook-off, without which the festival would not be as
“dee-li-cious.” The judging is open to the public and will be held at the Flint
Energies office complex auditorium at the corner of Highway 96 and Macon Street
directly across from the United Methodist Church. BUT the BEST part is that for
$1.00, you can grab a fork and a cup and taste all the goodies. YUM! If you are
interested in participating in the strawberry cook-off, entry forms are
available online www.ga-strawberry.org A new category
intoduced in 2009 consisting of jams and jellies has
once again been added to the cook-off, so if you have a knack for making some
mighty fine strawberry jam or jelly, this new contest is for you.
(2) the famous
Georgia Strawberry Festival Lawnmower Races are as exciting and thrilling as any
NASCAR race. The various ways people can modify a lawn mower becomes “mower”
amazing each year. When the dust clears and the roaring of the engines stops,
you will leave with quite an adventure to tell about for a long time.
Of course, new visitors and patrons of the 12th annual Georgia
Strawberry Festival will still get to enjoy a Friday evening gospel sing at the
gazebo in the Julian Knight City
Park featuring Southern Vision Gospel of Valley, Alabama, and Taylor County’s Wide Open. In the park,
grilled hamburgers and hot dogs will be on hand in conjunction with children’s
activities as well as melt-in-your-mouth “4-H strawberry shortcake.” In
addition, at the Baptist Church bell tower right next to
the park, take-out full meals prepared by the Reynolds’ Women’s Club will
be available. Saturday will be filled with an array of activities: there will be a 5K
run, a Teddy Bear Parade consisting of any children who wish to
participate (parents are allowed, too) on bicycles, in wagon or strollers, on riding toys,
on floats, and walking and then the grand parade sponsored by Hamby Chevrolet of
Perry. At other times during the day, you can meander along the streets where
you will find over 150 arts and crafts displays, a huge variety of food
booths, a farmers’ market with more than just strawberries, an old book sale
where you might find a treasure, a local artist display, a photography
contest, carnival rides, the Gazebo Jukebox, and the 3rd Annual Car show.
Remember to “SAVE THE DATES” (April 23 & 24) and begin to look
forward to all the fun you and your family will have at the 2010 12th
annual Georgia Strawberry Festival.
